Erin Blitz shut out by Stratford Fighting Irish

STRATFORD – The Erin Blitz suffered their sixth loss in as many games in the WOSHL Saturday as they were blanked 8-0 by the Stratford Fighting Irish.

Of the games for the first-year team, five have been road games.

Stratford had two goals in the first period Saturday and added three more in the second.

Mitchell Casey and Matt Fuller tallied twice apiece for Stratford while single goals were added by Ray Robbins, Graham Brulotte, Brody Smith and Cooper Leitch. Sean O’Brien assisted on three of the goals while Leitch had two assists and Warren Gorman, Brulotte, Casey, Mav Petrie, Fuller and Riley Coome had one apiece.

The Fighting Irish outshot the Blitz 55-17. Darren Smith had 17 saves for the shutout while Brayden Kelso had 47 saves for Erin.

The expansion Tilbury Bluebirds lead the league at 8-1-0-0 while the defending champion Elora Rocks are at 6-1-0-1. They’re followed by the Tillsonburg Thunder at 5-1-0-0, Stratford at 5-2-0-0, Strathroy Jets at 4-4-0-0, Alvinston Killer Bees at 2-4-0-1, Plattsville Lakers at 2-6-0-0, Delhi Flames at 2-7-0-0 and the Blitz at 0-6-0-0.

The Blitz are to host Tillsonburg Sunday at 3:30 p.m. at Erin’s Centre 2000 arena.
