Erin, Centre Dufferin advance to senior soccer final

HILLSBURGH – The Erin Raiders are to host the Centre Dufferin Royals of Shelburne in Wednesday’s District 4 high school senior boys’ soccer final.

The Raiders and Royals advanced to the final with shutout victories in Monday’s semifinals.

Erin defeated the Emmanuel Christian Eagles of Fergus 2-0 and Centre Dufferin edged the Westside Thunder of Orangeville 1-0.

Chris Cooke and Remi scored for the Raiders in their victory.

Noh Weldeab had the goal for the Royals.

Erin had finished the regular season in second place with a 7-1-2 record while Centre Dufferin was fourth at 4-4-2. Westside was first at 8-0-2 and Emmanuel Christian was third at 5-4-1.

The Raiders and Royals met twice during the regular season. They tied 1-1 in their season openers Sept. 21 and Erin won 2-0 at Shelburne Oct. 12.

Erin last won the D4 senior title in 2015 while Centre Dufferin won in 2010. The Royals were back-to-back junior champs in 2016 and 2017.

Wednesday’s game is to be played at Barbour Field in Hillsburgh starting at 2:45 p.m.
