Erin posts slim opening-game win in girls’ rugby

GUELPH – The Erin Raiders started their District 4/10 high school girls’ rugby season with a hard-fought 19-10 victory over the Guelph CVI Green Gaels Wednesday at Alumni Stadium.

The game was close throughout. Once Erin got the lead early in the first half, the Raiders didn’t give it up, but the Gaels twice cut the gap to two points.

However, the only scores of the second half were a try and convert by Erin on the final play of the match. That try also gave Erin a 3-2 edge in tries scored during the game.

Individual scorers were not reported.

 

Ross 38 Centre Dufferin 5

Kaleigh Bruce scored three of the six tries scored by Ross in the battle of the Royals while Devin Eddy kicked four converts. Other Ross scorers were not reported.

J. Grohal scored the try for defending champion Centre Dufferin.

 

Senior Boys Rugby

Ross scored all 10 tries scored in the match.

Luke VanDam had three of them while Charlie Thurtell had two tries and a convert. I. Misner added two tries while E. Geensen, W. Elliot and M. Burma each had one try and L. Thornton had the other convert.

 

Junior Boys Rugby

Ross 19 Centre Dufferin 0

Williamson, Crocker and Smith each had a try for Ross while Thompson added two converts.
