Erin Raiders rugby girls in CWOSSA A/AA semifinals

GUELPH – The Erin Raiders grabbed a spot in the CWOSSA high schools A/AA girls’ rugby semifinals following a pair of wins on the opening day of the tournament Friday at Eastview Park.

The Raiders defeated Sacred Heart of Walkerton 24-0 and Galt CI 24-19.

Dakota Poulter, Alix Broughton, Kyla Warren and Jessica Gravelle each scored a try against Sacred Heart while Madi Busby kicked two converts.

Warren had two tries against Galt CI and Gravelle and M. Eisner added one apiece. Busby kicked two more converts.

The Bishop Macdonell Celtics were also in the tournament, but they suffered a pair of losses Friday as they fell 34-0 to Grey Highlands and 51-0 to Holy Trinity.

Monday’s semifinals at Eastview Park are set for 10:30 a.m. Erin is to play Grey Highland in one game while the other features Holy Trinity against Owen Sound’s St. Mary’s. Winners advance to the 1:30 p.m. final.

Holy Trinity won the CWOSSA A/AA senior boys’ title Friday with a 17-12 victory over Paris in the championship match of the five-team affair.

Erin Raiders dropped their lone match of the tournament 12-5 to Holy Trinity who move on to the OFSAA provincial A/AA boys’ rugby championship tournament at Brooklin June 6 to 8.
