Even-strength Patriots overpower Mitchell Hawks

MITCHELL – The Mount Forest Patriots kept the Mitchell Hawks scoreless at even strength and after the first period to record a 5-2 victory in Provincial Junior Hockey League play Wednesday night at the Mitchell arena.

The Patriots scored the first three goals of the game, all in the first period, and added two more goals for the win. Both Mitchell goals came in the second period with the Hawks playing shorthanded.

Brody Leblanc, Luke Hoelscher, Troy Weber, Will Black and Thomas Coulter scored a goal apiece for the Patriots while Jack Birkett and Liam Burke each had two assists. Picking up one assist each were Black, Jack Francis, Dawson Bolger, Owen Rahn, Weber and Brady Becker.

Nathan Hall and Ethan Hill had the goals for Mitchell while Hill, Luken Van Pelt and Sean Chisholm each had one assist.

Mount Forest outshot Mitchell 50-19, but was scoreless on six power plays while Mitchell was scoreless on two.

David Lobsinger made 17 saves for the win while Zach Weber took the loss for Mitchell. He had 21 saves in 31:43 while Bobby McLachlan made 24 saves in 28:17.

The win lifts the Patriots into a tie for second place in the Pollock Division with the Kincardine Bulldogs at 6-2-0-0 while Mitchell falls to 2-7-1-0.

The Patriots and Bulldogs are to battle Saturday at Kincardine’s Ripley Huron Community Centre. Game time is 4 p.m.
