Falcons net single goal to stay atop girls’ hockey standings
GUELPH – A single goal Monday was all the Centre Wellington Falcons needed to stay undefeated and extend their lead atop the District 10 high school girls’ hockey league standings.
The Falcons edged the Centennial Spartans 1-0 at Centennial arena for their sixth win in as many league outings.
Sydney Healey scored the game’s only goal with 4:39 to go in the second period. Emily Palmer and Cecilie Proctor assisted on the goal.
Faith Mitchell collected the shutout, Centre Wellington’s fourth of the season and third in a row.
The loss dropped Centennial to 3-3-0-0.
Guelph CVI 4 St. James 2
GCVI scored twice in the final six and a half minutes to claim the win.
The short-staffed Gaels – they had three subs – led 1-0 at the end of the first period, but St. James battled back to tie it 2-2 by the end of the second.
Damara Marshall had two goals and an assist for GCVI while Ruby Neumann had a goal and an assist and Emma Pacan scored the other goal. Lexi Hewitt picked up two assists.
K.J. Johnston scored both goals for St. James, the first two goals in league play for the young Lions this season. Faith McKillop had an assist.
The win lifts the Gaels to 2-4-0-0 while St. James falls to 0-4-0-0.
