
Falcons stay unbeaten and wrap up first-place finish
GUELPH – The Centre Wellington Falcons scored three times in the first period to remain undefeated in District 10 high school girls’ hockey play as they claimed a 5-2 victory over the Centennial Spartans Monday at Centennial arena.
The Falcons also clinched a first-place finish with the victory in the game that was the first in league play following the two-week break for exams.
Centre Wellington led 3-0 at the end of the first period while all scoring in the game was complete by the end of the second.
Morgan Robinson and Abigail Kirk each had a goal and an assist for the Falcons while Alli Pettifer, Campbell Lean and Avery Diljee also scored. Getting an assist apiece were Olivia Kosempel, Alwynn Mackie and Keira Healey.
Centennial received single goals from Brynley Huether and Alexis Goodchild. Abby Leclerc, Tristan Helps, Jadis Howden and Kyra Beuttenmiller each had an assist.
Centre Wellington leads the standings at 8-0-1 with a game to go while the Ross Royals are locked into a second-place finish as they’re at 7-2-1 after having finished their regular season prior to the exam break. The Lourdes Crusaders and the Spartans are both at 5-4-0 with a game to go. They’re to play each other Wednesday at Exhibition arena.
The St. James Lions are at 1-9-0 with a game to play and the Guelph CVI Green Gaels are at 0-8-0 with two games to go. The Gaels and Lions are to meet at the Victoria Road arena Wednesday and they’re to host Centre Wellington Thursday at Exhibition arena.
The playoffs are to start with next week’s quarter-finals.
