Fast start for Crusaders leads to win over Lions

GUELPH – The Lourdes Crusaders scored five times in the first period on their way to an 8-1 victory over the St. James Lions in District 10 high school girls’ hockey play Monday at the Victoria Road arena.

The Crusaders added two more goals in the second period before the teams scored once apiece in the third.

Georgia Bernard had a hat trick for Lourdes while single goals were netted by Alexandra Tessier, Ariss Deliberali, Bella Hadfield and Abigail Robinson.

Angelina Gemin had four assists while Deliberali had two and Bernard, Tessier and Kayla Wilson had one apiece. Another goal and an assist went to an unidentified player.

K.J. Johnston scored for St. James with just over eight and a half minutes to play. Shannon Green and Kami Durzi assisted on the goal.

The win squares Lourdes’ record at 3-3-0-0 while the loss drops the Lions to 0-5-1-0.
