Fast-starting Guelph Storm triples Kitchener

KITCHENER – The Guelph Storm struck for four goals in the first period on their way to a 6-2 victory over the Kitchener Rangers in Ontario Hockey League play Tuesday night at the Kitchener Memorial Auditorium complex.

The Storm led 4-1 at the end of the first period before adding a pair of goals in the second. Kitchener’s final goal came in the third.

Isaac Ratcliffe and Keegan Stevenson scored twice each for the Storm while single goals were added by Liam Hawel and Cam Hillis. Cedric Ralph, Nate Schnarr and Ryan Merkley each had two assists while Domenico Commisso, Mark Woolley, Luka Profaca and Hawel had one apiece.

Michael Vukojevic and Jonathan Yantsis connected for the goals for Kitchener while assists went to Alexey Lipanov, Eric Guest, Joseph Garreffa and Riley Damiani.

The teams each had 39 shots on goal while the Storm went 3-for-4 on their power play and the Rangers were scoreless on their four power plays.

Anthony Popovich collected the win in net for the Storm while Luke Richardson took the loss for Kitchener. He had 21 saves in the first two periods before giving way to Lucas Pfeil who played the third period and stopped all1 2 shots he faced.

The Storm leads the Midwest Division at 9-4-2-0 while Kitchener is fourth at 7-6-2-0.

Next up for the Storm is a pair of road games this weekend. They’re to play the Sault Ste. Marie Greyhounds (10-3-3-0) Friday at 7:07 p.m. and the Saginaw Spirit (7-5-1-1) Saturday at 7:05 p.m.
