Fergus Highland and Norfolk in men’s rugby stalemate

WATERFORD – Fergus Highland and the Norfolk Harvesters tied one on in Niagara Rugby Union Men A1 league play Saturday at the Waterford District High School.

Highland and the Harvesters battled to a 19-19 standoff to complete their regular seasons.

Both teams scored three tries.

Highland finished fifth in the six-team league at 3-6-1 while the tie ended a losing streak for the Harvesters who finished sixth at 0-9-1.


NRU Men A2

Highland suffered a 36-21 loss to the Grimsby Gentlemen to close out their regular season Thursday night at Grimsby.

The hosts scored five tries in the match while Highland had three.

Highland will finish sixth in the six-team league at 1-9-0.

Grimsby has a make-up game to go and will finish fourth. They’re at 4-5-0 and can’t catch third-place Sarnia Saints (6-4-0) or be caught by fifth-place Hamilton Hornets (2-7-0).


NRU Women

Highland was edged 29-26 by the Burlington Centaurs in league play Saturday at Sherwood Forest Park.

Highland struck for four tries in the match while Burlington had five.

The result leaves Highland second at 5-4-0 and eight bonus points while Burlington is fourth at 4-4-1 and five bonus points.
