Fergus Highland posts three NRU wins on home field

FERGUS – Fergus Highland swept all three of their Niagara Rugby Union games at Victoria Park Saturday, winning in women’s, men’s A1 and men’s A2 play.

 

NRU Women

The Highlanders recorded their third consecutive win as they dropped the Burlington Centaurs 62-12.

The hosts scored 10 tries in the match while Burlington had two.

The win kept Highland second in the seven-team league with a 5-1-0 record. Burlington and Waterloo County are tied for third with identical 3-2-1 records while London St. George leads at 6-0-0.

Highland is to play Waterloo County at Waterloo Saturday at 12 noon and host London St. George July 20.

 

NRU Men A1

The Highlanders struck for eight tries as they dropped the Norfolk County Harvesters 48-10.

Norfolk County managed two tries.

With bonus points taken into account, Highland (3-4-0) and Hamilton Hornets (2-5-0) are tied for fourth in the six-team league while the loss was the seventh in as many league outings for Norfolk County.

Highland is to host Hamilton Saturday at 3 p.m.

 

NRU Men A2

The Highlanders kept the Grimsby Gentlemen scoreless to record a 20-0 win.

The hosts scored four tries in the match.

The win allowed Highland to jump over the Hamilton Hornets and into fifth place in the six-team league. The Fergus side is at 1-6-0 with six points and Hamilton is 1-5-0 with five points.

Grimsby is fourth at 2-4-0 and 12 points.

Highland and Hamilton are to battle Saturday at 1:30 p.m. at Victoria Park.
