Fergus Thistles doubled by Wilmot at Plattsville

PLATTSVILLE – The Fergus Thistles suffered their second loss in as many Ontario Junior C Lacrosse League outings as they were doubled 14-7 by the Wilmot Wild Sunday at the Plattsville Arena.

Wilmot collected seven of its goals in the second period of its season opener.

The Wild led 3-2 at the end of the first period and 10-5 after the second.

Jarrett Lavigne struck for a pair of goals for Fergus while Tye Sanderson, Logan Joyes, Rory Peters, Cooper Fleet and Evan McDougall added single goals. Sanderson had two assists while single assists were awarded to Aiden McDougall, Blake Harrison, Joyes, Brodie Rice, Fleet and Evan McDougall.

Kyler Morgan led Wilmot with four goals and two assists while Owyn Smith and Landon Krysko each had two goals. Scoring once apiece were Nathan Coverdale, Carsen Besse, James Oberle, Ethan Warden, Damon Radley and Jack Buiter. Erin Snyder assisted on three goals while Jacob O’Sullivan, Troy MacDonald, Warden, Brett Wilson, Buiter and Eric Chilton each had one assist.

Eric Krauter was in net for the Thistles while Aidan Kelly was between the pipes for Wilmot.

Fergus went 3-for-9 on its power play while Wilmot was 6-for-9. The Thistles netted three shorthanded goals while the Wild had one.

The Thistles (0-2-0) are to play the Halton Hills Bulldogs (0-2-0) in their home opener Friday at 8 p.m. at the Centre Wellington Community Sportsplex.
