Fergus Thistles leave Wilmot Wild behind
BADEN – The Fergus Thistles connected for five consecutive goals to turn a one-goal deficit into a lead they wouldn’t relinquish in an 11-5 victory over the Wilmot Wild in Ontario junior C lacrosse play Sunday at the Wilmot arena.
Wilmot had scored in the opening minute of the second period after the team had been tied 2-2 at the end of the first. The Thistles responded with their five-goal run with four of the goals coming in the second period to put Fergus up 6-3 at the end of the second.
Brodie Schafer led the Thistles with a four-goal outing while Nick Aitchison had a hat trick and Jake Bauman, Alec Beaurogard, Scott Stovel and J.J. Swanston added single goals. Carter Hyndman picked up six assists while Adam Lantz had three and Aitchison, Ryan Litt, Schafer and Stovel each had one.
Wilmot received goals from Hayden Berger, Jaxon Martin, Tyler Nagy, Kent Radbourne and Tyler Townsend while Berger and Blake Wideman each had two assists and Derek Jensen, Martin and Nagy each had one.
Xavier DiMichele was the winning netminder for the Thistles who were outshot 57-46. Reyd Fitton took the loss for Wilmot.
The Thistles are to play on back-to-back nights this week as they’re to host the Halton Hills Bulldogs Friday at 8 p.m. at the Elora and District Community Centre and they’re to play the Barrie Bombers at Barrie’s Holly Community Centre Saturday at 7:30 p.m.
