
Thistles make Wilmot pay with third-period outburst
FERGUS – The Fergus Thistles erupted for seven consecutive goals in the third period to slip by the Wilmot Wild 13-10 in Ontario Junior C Lacrosse League play at the Centre Wellington Community Sportsplex Thursday night.
The scoring spree for the Thistles included three power-play goals and it turned a three-goal deficit after the second period into the win.

The Thistles led 3-2 at the end of the first period, but Wilmot scored seven in the second to go ahead 9-6 by the end of the period.
Jon-James Lavigne had four goals and two assists for the Thistles while Keegan Detweiler had three goals and an assist. Carter Coffey had two goals and three assists, Brock Reinhart two goals and an assist, J.J. Swanston a goal and three assists, Curtis Dietrich a goal and two assists, Aiden Mcdougall three assists and Kaiden Patterson and Brock Redwood one assist apiece.
Travis Riebot had a hat trick for Wilmot while Ethan Wardan scored twice and Kyler Morgan, Eric Snyder, Chase Forsythe, E.J. Keleher and Alex Ptolemy-French added single goals.
Wilmot outshot the Thistles 46-43 and had three power-play goals and two shorthanded goals while the hosts had seven power-play goals and a shorthanded tally.
Ethan Bratton had 36 saves to get the win in net for Fergus while Aidan Kelly had 30 saves for Wilmot.
Fergus leads the West Division at 7-1-0 while Wilmot is fourth at 5-4-0.
The Thistles are to host the second-place Orangeville Northmen (6-1-0) Sunday at 3 p.m. at the Elora and District Community Centre. That’s the first game of a junior lacrosse doubleheader as the Elora Mohawks are to play the Hamilton Bengals there at 7 p.m.
