Fergus Thistles net another 17 goals in Game 2 victory

Another playoff outing and another 17-goal performance by the Fergus Thistles Tuesday.

The Thistles connected for eight second-period goals for the second consecutive Ontario Junior C Lacrosse League playoff match as they downed the Brantford Warriors 17-11 at the Brantford Civic Centre.

The win gives the Thistles a 2-0 lead in the best-of-five Western Conference quarter-final.

Fergus led 6-2 at the end of the first period and 14-6 after the second.

Evan McDougall connected for five goals and three assists while Curtis Dietrich and Kaiden Patterson each netted hat tricks. Brodie Rice scored twice while single goals were added by Aiden McDougall, Brock Reinhart, Jared Bettonvil and Tye Sanderson. Aiden McDougall picked up seven assists while Bettonvil and Cooper Fleet each had four and Patterson, Spencer Aitchison, Aiden Cormack, Owen Hahn, Rice and Fraser Clark each had one.

Krystof Adamec had a hat trick for Brantford while Brendan Keogh, Trent Schertzing and Bodhi Gillies tallied twice apiece. Justin Brennecke and Braedon Mair each added single goals.

Fergus outshot Brantford 49-46 and the Thistles had six power-play goals and a shorthanded marker. Brantford had two power-play goals.

Carter Billings had 35 saves for Fergus while Jack Forbes had 30 and Ondrej Hajek had six for Brantford.

The Thistles are to host Game 3 of the series Thursday at 8 p.m. at the Centre Wellington Community Sportsplex.
