Fergus Thistles nip Barrie to keep win streak alive

BARRIE – A goal with just over five minutes to play lifted the Fergus Thistles to a 10-9 victory over the Barrie Bombers in Ontario Junior C Lacrosse League play Sunday at Barrie’s Holly Community Centre.

While Barrie scored the first two goals of the game, the Thistles came back to lead 6-4 at the end of the first period before the teams scored three times apiece in the second period.

Jon-James Lavigne collected a hat trick for the Thistles while Garret Warnaar tallied twice. Getting one goal apiece were Curtis Dietrich, Keegan Detweiler, Carter Coffey, Ewan Mackie and Terrance Barrina. J.J. Swanston set up three goals while Warnaar and Brock Reinhart each had two assists. Lavigne, Dietrich, Detweiler, Coffey and Aiden McDougall each had an assist.

Chase Hughes scored twice for Barrie while single goals were netted by Cody Callow, Myles Shorey, Andrew Dafoe, Graham Nash, Carter Barrie, Luke Wensing and Josh Coughlin.

Shots on net were not reported.

Ethan Bratton picked up the win in net for the Thistles while Kalib Anglin Ramm took the loss for Barrie.

The Thistles went 5-for-7 on their power play while the Bombers went 2-for-5.

With two games to go in their regular season, the Thistles have won seven in a row and lead the West Division at 14-2-0. Barrie is tied for sixth at 3-13-0.

The Thistles and Bombers are to play again Friday at the Arthur arena. Game time is 8 p.m.
