Fergus Thistles tripled by Orangeville Northmen

FERGUS – The Fergus Thistles surrendered six goals in the second period as they were tripled 9-3 by the Orangeville Northmen in Ontario Junior C Lacrosse League play Wednesday night at the Centre Wellington Sportsplex.

The Thistles scored the first goal of the game, but Orangeville responded with six in a row to take control.

Orangeville led 2-1 at the end of the first period and 8-3 after the second.

Aiden McDougall, Tye Sanderson and Carter Coffey had a goal apiece for Fergus while Eddie McDonald had two assists and Blake Harrison, Spencer Aitchison and Evan McDougall each had an assist.

Josh Presley, Zach Dorval and Jack Fitzpatrick each had two goals for Orangeville while single goals were added by Daniel Dorval, Lyle MacNeil and Owen Kelly. Presley assisted on five of the goals while Fitzpatrick and Kelly each had three assists. Single assists were awarded to Daniel Dorval, Cameron McClintock, MacNeil and Bryce Barwick.

Orangeville outshot Fergus 47-43 and Fergus scored the game’s lone power-play goal.

Ethan Bratton had 38 saves in net for the Thistles while Orangeville’s Jacob Hand had 40.

The result leaves Fergus at 1-6-0 and Orangeville at 3-6-0.

The Thistles are to play the Brantford Warriors (3-4-0) at Brantford’s Wayne Gretzky Sports Complex Friday. Game time is 8 p.m.
