Field hockey Gryphs in stalemate with York

TORONTO – The Guelph Gryphons battled the York Lions to a 1-1 standoff in OUA women’s field hockey play Sunday at York’s Alumni Field.

Both teams scored in the first half as Chloe Walton hit for the hosts in the 21st minute and Rudi Ballard replied for the Gryphs 10 minutes later.

York outshot the Gryphs 7-4 with Guelph goalkeeper Amanda Hodgert making six saves.

For the Gryphs, the tie followed a 5-0 win over the Waterloo Warriors at Waterloo Saturday.

Scoring details for that win were not reported.

The Gryphs (1-0-1) are to play the Queen’s Gaels (1-1-0) Saturday at 4 p.m. at London and host the Toronto Varsity Blues (2-0-0) Sunday at 12:30 p.m. at Varsity Field.
