
Fifth consecutive loss for Gryphon hockey men
WATERLOO – The Guelph Gryphons suffered their fifth consecutive loss in OUA men’s hockey play as they were edged 3-2 by the Laurier Golden Hawks Friday night at the Sun Life Financial Arena in the Waterloo Memorial Recreation Complex.
Colin Campbell’s third-period goal, the only goal of the period, gave Laurier the win.

The teams had been tied 1-1 at the end of the first period and 2-2 after the second.
Ethan Doyle scored in the first period for the Gryphs and Jacob Winterton’s goal at 18:28 of the second gave Guelph the lead.
However, Laurier’s Patrick Brown pulled the hosts even with 25 seconds to go in the second. Grayden Gottschalk scored in the first for Laurier.
Jaxon Camp, Nathan Allensen and Ted Nichol each had an assist for the Gryphs.
Chayse Herrfort had two assists for Laurier while Sam Rhodes, James Thomson, Evan Benwell and Conor Ali each had one.
The Gryphs outshot the Golden Hawks 29-27 and Laurier went 1-for-6 on the power play while Guelph was scoreless on six power plays.
Guelph native Matthew Dunsmoor had 27 saves for the Golden Hawks while Nate McDonald had 24 for the Gryphs.
Laurier leapfrogs the Gryphs in the West Division standings with the win. The Golden Hawks are eighth at 3-5-1-0, one point ahead of the Gryphs who are at 2-3-2-0.
The Gryphs are to play the sixth-place Toronto Varsity Blues (4-4-1-0) Saturday at 3 p.m. at Toronto’s Varsity Arena.
