
Firebirds score in each period to drop Shamrocks
CAMBRIDGE – The Hespeler Shamrocks yielded at least two goals in each period as they were downed 7-1 by the New Hamburg Firebirds in PJHL play Sunday at the Hespeler Memorial Arena.
The Firebirds struck for three goals in one second less than two minutes to lead 3-1 at the end of the first period. They added two goals in the second and two more in the third.

Riley Panagapka scored the lone goal for Hespeler while Jett Spark and Thomas Giffin assisted on the play. That goal came 28 seconds after New Hamburg’s third goal.
Owen Fischer struck for a pair of goals for the Firebirds while Antonio Pasqualino, Jack Nell, Jake Thompson, Cole Stannix and Jake Thompson scored once each. Lucas Carson assisted on six of the goals while Fischer had three and Thompson collected two. Single assists were awarded to Tyler Reid, Justin McManus and Matt Domm.
New Hamburg outshot Hespeler 60-30 including a 24-7 advantage in the second period. The Firebirds were 1-for-4 on their power play while the Shamrocks were scoreless on three power plays.
Ben Desroches had 53 saves for the Shamrocks while Griffin Murphy had 29 for New Hamburg.
The Firebirds lead the Doherty Division at 16-1-1-1 while Hespeler is sixth at 2-15-1-1.
The Shamrocks and Firebirds are to tangle again Friday at the Wilmot Recreation Centre. Game time is 7:30 p.m.
