First loss knocks Gryphon soccer women out of division lead

HAMILTON – The Guelph Gryphons suffered their first loss of the OUA women’s soccer season Sunday as they were edged 1-0 by the McMaster Marauders at Ron Joyce Stadium.

Stephanie Roberts scored the game’s lone goal with about a minute to go in the first half.

Goalkeeper Jayashree Pathak collected her first clean sheet of the season for McMaster.

The game was a tightly-fought contest with each team taking four shots.

Brooke Davidson took the loss in the Guelph net.

The loss knocked the Gryphs out of top spot in the West Division. They’re second at 7-1-3 while the Western Mustangs lead at 7-0-4 and McMaster is third at 5-3-3.

The Gryphs are to host the Waterloo Warriors (4-4-3) Friday at 2:45 p.m. at the Gryphon Soccer Complex.
