
First-period goals carry Patriots to victory
WALKERTON – Two goals late in the first period proved to be the difference as the Mount Forest Patriots upended the Walkerton Hawks 6-4 in Provincial Junior Hockey League play Friday night at the Walkerton Community Centre.
Mount Forest led 2-0 at the end of the first period before the teams scored once apiece in the second and three times apiece in the third.

Ben Demoe rifled in a pair of goals for Mount Forest while single goals were added by Christopher Prucha, Calan Tanzi-Foshay, Caleb Cribbin and Riley Torrie. Ben Tenhag and Hayden Coulter each had two assists while Aaron McGuirk, Darcy Winkler, Matthew Weiler and Derrick Cornfield each had one.
Kyle Durrer tallied twice for Walkerton while Adam McConnell and Brayden Fischer also scored. Single assists were awarded to Aaron McConnell, Jordan Borth, Austin Brown, Evan Visser, Fischer, Sean O’Donnell and Connor Prins.
Shots on net were not reported.
Joshua Peters picked up the win in net for the Patriots while Kyle Rivers took the loss for Walkerton.
The Patriots went 1-for-2 on their power play and they held Walkerton scoreless on two power plays.
The result leaves Mount Forest at 4-1-0-1 and Walkerton at 1-6-0-0.
The Patriots are to host the Hanover Barons (5-1-0-1) Saturday at 8 p.m. at the Mount Forest and District Sports Complex.
