Force scores first, but dropped by Meaford

FERGUS – Another first for the Fergus Force in their inaugural season in the Greater Metro Junior A Hockey League play Sunday at the Centre Wellington Sportsplex as they scored the first goal of a game for the very first time.

However, the game finished as another one-sided victory for the Meaford Knights who prevailed 12-4.

Fergus and Meaford have met four times this season and the Knights have won all four, hitting double digits in goals in three of them. Meaford outscored the Force 44-9 in those games, including a 14-0 welcome-to-the-league match at Fergus Sept. 17.

Sunday, the teams were tied 2-2 at the end of the first period before Meaford shot ahead 6-2 by the end of the second period.

Beau Janssen, Tommy Gramando, Mathew Soules and Kinsly Trivisonno scored a goal apiece for Fergus while Matthew Bogenrieder had two assists and Keegan Henderson, Trivisonno, Justin Bryenton, Sean Caruso and Blake Ward had one apiece.

Callum Queenan and Connor Long scored twice each for Meaford while single goals were added by Jeff Hyndman, Skylar Robertson, Owen Tichbourne, Mitchell Bolduc, Eric Brynestad, Niko Walsh, Hampus Wall and Tyler Strutz. Bolduc assisted on four of the goals while Brandon Farrell had three assists, Robertson two and Justin Pereira, Eric Lowry, Walsh, Will Vernon, Colton Langowski, Matthew Ellsworth and David Hooper one apiece.

The Knights outshot the Force 65-45. Tyler Sayger had the win in net for Meaford while Gilbert Oldrieve took the loss for Fergus.

Neither team netted a power-play goal, but Meaford had three shorthanded goals.

The result left the Force at 1-16-0-0 and Meaford at 12-5-0-3.

For the Force, the game was the second in a row against the Knights as Meaford had won 7-3 at home Thursday night.
