Four Gryphon squads ranked in top 10
GUELPH – The Guelph Gryphons (1-1) remained eighth in the U Sports national university football rankings following their win over the York Lions Monday.
The top six in the rankings remained the same with the Western Mustangs (1-0) first, Laval Rouge et Or (2-0) second, Montreal Carabins (1-0) third, Laurier Golden Hawks (2-0) fourth, Calgary Dinos (1-0) fifth and UBC Thunderbirds (1-0) sixth. The Carleton Ravens (1-1) moved into the top 10 at seventh while the Ottawa Gee-Gees (1-1) and Saskatchewan Huskies (1-0) also moved into the top 10 at ninth and 10th respectively.
OUA teams to get honourable mention were the Queen’s Gaels (1-1) in 12th, Waterloo Warriors (2-0) 15th and McMaster Marauders (1-1) 16th.
The Gryphs are to play the Ottawa Gee-Gees at Ottawa Saturday afternoon.
The Gryphons (2-1-1) dropped a spot to seventh in the national rankings as they swapped spots with the UBC Thunderbirds (1-0-1) thanks to Guelph’s loss to the York Lions last week.
The top five stayed the same with the Cape Breton Capers (0-0-0) first, York (3-0-1) second, Montreal Carabins (2-0-0) third, Ryerson Rams (4-0-0) fourth and Carleton Ravens (4-0-0) fifth.
The Alberta Golden Bears (3-0-0) moved into the rankings in eighth while the McMaster Marauders (3-0-1) remained ninth and the Trinity Western Spartans (1-1-1) dropped two spots to 10th.
OUA teams in the honourable group are the Toronto Varsity Blues (3-1-0) in 11th and Western Mustangs (2-1-2) 17th.
The Gryphs are to play a pair of games this weekend as they’re to play the Brock Badgers at St. Catharines Saturday at 3:15 p.m. and host McMaster Sunday at 3:15 p.m.
The Gryphons (2-0-2) are the only newcomers in the top 10 as they debut at ninth.
Montreal Carabins (1-0-1) continue to lead while the Laval Rouge et Or (1-0-1) are second, swapping places with the Cape Breton Capers (0-0-0). Trinity Western Spartans (0-0-0) remained fourth while the Queen’s Gaels (2-0-0) stayed in fifth. UBC Thunderbirds (1-0-0) are sixth, Ottawa Gee-Gees (3-0-1) seventh, Western Mustangs (2-0-2) eighth and Acadia Axewomen (0-0-0) 10th.
OUA teams receiving honourable mention are the UOIT Ridgebacks (2-4-0) in 13th, McMaster Marauders (2-0-2) 18th, Toronto Varsity Blues (2-0-1) 19th and York Lions (1-2-1) 22nd.
The Gryphs have two 1 p.m. games on their schedule this weekend. They’re to battle the Brock Badgers at St. Catharines Saturday and host McMaster Sunday.
The Gryphons (0-0-0) are ranked seventh in the first rankings of the season.
The Ottawa Gee-Gees (1-0) are ranked first and are followed by the St. Francis Xavier X-Women (0-0) in second, Laval Rouge et Or (0-1) third, Queen’s Gaels (1-0) fourth, Calgary Dinos (0-0) fifth, McMaster Marauders (1-0) sixth, Carleton Ravens (1-0) eighth, Victoria Vikes (0-0) ninth and Acadia Axewomen (0-0) 10th.
The Gryphs are to play Queen’s at Kingston Saturday at 1 p.m.
