Fourth straight win leaves Nighthawks tied for second
OTTAWA – The Guelph Nighthawks ran their fourth consecutive Canadian Elite Basketball League victory by downing the Ottawa BlackJacks 83-73 for their first road victory of the season.
The Nighthawks struck for the final baskets, both by A.J. Lawson, to claim the victory. Lawson dropped a lay-up in to give Guelph a seven-point lead before hitting on a three-pointer to put an end to the game.

Ottawa led 17-16 at the end of the first quarter at TD Place. The Nighthawks surged ahead 35-30 by halftime and 58-51 by the end of the third quarter.
The 10-point margin at the end of the game was Guelph’s largest lead of a game they never trailed by more than three points.
Lawson led Guelph with 23 points while Ahmed Hill had 15 and T.J. Lall added 13. Hill grabbed 10 rebounds while Stefan Smith had four assists, Hill had two steals and Lall had three blocks.
Walt Lemon Jr. hit for 25 points for Ottawa while Jackson Rowe had 12. Zena Edosomwan hauled down 11 rebounds while Rowe had five assists and two blocks and Lemon Jr. had three steals.
Stats wise, the teams were fairly even. Both teams shot 41 percent on field goals while Guelph hit 66 percent of free throws to 52 percent for Ottawa. The BlackJacks had 47 rebounds, six more than Guelph, while the Nighthawks had 20 assists, eight steals and seven blocks to 18 assists, six steals and five blocks for Ottawa.
The win lifted the Nighthawks to 5-3 and into a tie for second place with the Niagara River Lions, also at 5-3. Hamilton Honey Badgers lead at 7-1. Fraser Valley Bandits are fourth at 4-2 while the Scarborough Shooting Stars and Edmonton Stingers are both at 4-3. Saskatchewan Rattlers follow at 3-4 while the Montreal Alliance is at 3-5, Ottawa’s at 1-5 and the Newfoundland Growlers are at 0-7.
The Nighthawks are to play three consecutive home games at the Sleeman Centre as they’re to host Hamilton Sunday at 2 p.m., Fraser Valley Tuesday at 7 p.m. and Edmonton June 25 at 2 p.m.
After that, the Nighthawks are to play six of their next seven games on the road.
