District 10

Gaels by themselves atop senior girls’ hoops standings

GUELPH – The Guelph CVI Green Gaels grabbed sole possession of top spot in the all-Guelph District 10 high school senior girls’ basketball league by slipping by the Ross Royals 49-42 Thursday.

Nyssa Matthews led the Gaels with a 14-point performance while Jasmine Liban and Acadia Tremain each had nine.

Ailani Curvan had a game-high 15 for Ross while Charlie Capper contributed seven.

The win kept the Gaels undefeated with four victories in as many league outings. The Centennial Spartans are second at 3-1 and are followed by Ross and the Lourdes Crusaders with 2-2 records, Bishop Macdonell Celtics at 1-3 and St. James Lions at 0-4.

McKenna Codrington hit for nine points for Lourdes while Olivia Doucette added eight.

Martina Gazzola collected nine for Bishop Mac.

 

Junior Girls

Ross 42 Guelph CVI 21

Sam Tesfit sparked Ross with 18 points while Alex Blashuk and Leah Van Milligan each had eight.

Gurmen Judge and Ally Ostrander each had six for GCVI.

 

Orangeville 51 Centennial 32

Katie Firth netted 19 points for Orangeville while Ayla Corrigale followed with 16.

Hayley McMillan’s 15 points led Centennial while Ellie Conroy chipped in with five.
