Gaels, Crusaders advance to baseball semifinals

GUELPH – The defending champion Guelph CVI Green Gaels and the Lourdes Crusaders gained berths in Friday’s District 4/10 high school baseball semifinals with quarter-final victories Wednesday at Pearson Park.

The Gaels edged the Bishop Macdonell Celtics 12-11 and the Crusaders downed the Centre Dufferin Royals 11-5.

Details were not reported from either game.

Friday’s semifinals are to be played at Pearson Park. Guelph CVI is to play the Ross Royals at 12:30 p.m. and Lourdes is to battle the Centennial Spartans at 3:30 p.m.

Winners gain a berth in the league final that is set for Monday at 3 p.m. at Pearson Park.

The teams in the semifinals are the teams that finished in the top four at the end of the regular season. Ross was first at 7-0-0, Lourdes second at 5-2-0, Centennial third at 4-1-2 and GCVI fourth at 3-3-1.
