Gaels get their first two wins of field hockey season

GUELPH – The Guelph CVI Green Gaels hit for a pair of victories in District 4/10 high school girls’ field hockey play Wednesday at Varsity Field.

The Gaels blanked the Bishop Macdonell Celtics 2-0 and downed the Centre Wellington Falcons 3-1.

Sara Michael and Maggie Smart hit for a goal apiece against Bishop Mac.

Smart, Gabrielle Faragitakis and Michaela Rankin scored against Centre Wellington.

Daislynn McCracken tallied for the Falcons.

GCVI’s wins followed a season-opening loss.

Orangeville Scarlet Bears lead the league at 3-0-0 while Ross is at 2-0-1. GCVI is at 2-1-0 while Bishop Mac’s at 2-2-0, Centre Dufferin’s at 1-1-2, Centennial Spartans are at 1-1-1, Centre Wellington’s at 1-3-0 and Wellington Heights is at 0-4-0.

Samantha Tracey had a pair of goals for Bishop Mac while J. Moroz also scored.

McCracken scored for Centre Wellington.

 

Centre Dufferin 3 Wellington Heights 0

Scoring a goal apiece for Centre Dufferin were Tori Sodoma, Jordan Smith and Saige Morley while Shannan Armstrong had the shutout.

 

Ross 0 Centre Dufferin 0

Acacia Douglas-Henke of Ross and Armstrong of Centre Dufferin recorded the shutouts.

 

Ross 5 Wellington Heights 0

Emma Elliott and Leah Penner struck for two goals apiece for Ross while Kennedy Queen scored the other one. Douglas-Henke had the shutout.
