Gaels hockey girls post shutout victory

GUELPH – The Guelph CVI Green Gaels headed into the two-week break for exams on a winning note as they defeated the St. James Lions 2-0 in District 10 high school girls’ hockey play Thursday at Exhibition arena.

Ruby Neumann and Damara Marshall scored a goal apiece and Emma Ryan had the shutout.

Each of the six teams in the league will have one regular-season game to play after the break.

Centre Wellington Falcons have clinched a first-place finish. They’ve won all nine of their league games while Ross Royals are at 7-2-0-0 and are assured of a second-place finish. Centennial Spartans and Lourdes Crusaders are both at 4-5-0-0 while GCVI’s at 3-6-0-0 and St. James is at 0-9-0-0.

The games of the final week feature Centennial against St. James on Feb. 4, Centre Wellington against GCVI Feb. 6 and Ross against Lourdes Feb. 7.
