Gaels rugby girls complete unbeaten regular season

GUELPH — The Guelph CVI Green Gaels cemented a first-place finish in District 4/10 high school girls’ rugby league’s Pool B with a 25-5 victory over the Bishop Macdonell Celtics Monday at the University of Guelph’s Varsity Field.

Kaleigh Watson struck for three tries for GCVI while Kahlen Livingstone and Emmy Beebe-Viger each had one.

Kayah Adamuszewski had the lone try for Bishop Mac.

The Green Gaels won all three of their regular-season matches while the loss leaves Bishop Mac third in the four-team pool at 1-2-0.

The pool is to complete its regular season Tuesday when the second-place Ross Royals (1-1-0) host the fourth-place Centennial Spartans (0-2-0).

GCVI and Ross are to advance to the league’s championship semifinals while Bishop Mac and Centennial are to compete in the consolation semifinals. Both are scheduled for Monday and Tuesday next week.

Pool A

Centre Dufferin moved into top spot in Pool A with a 22-7 victory over the Centre Wellington Falcons Monday at Fergus.

Scoring details were not reported.

The win leaves Centre Dufferin at 2-1-0 while Centre Wellington finishes the regular season at 0-3-0.

The regular season is to come to an end Tuesday when the Orangeville Bears (1-1-0) and Erin Raiders (2-0-0) tangle in Erin.

Bonus points could decide first place in the pool as it’s possible that Centre Dufferin, Erin and Orangeville all finish with 2-1-0 records. That would be good for eight points apiece while teams get a bonus point for scoring four or more tries in a game and teams that lose a game by seven points or less also receive a bonus point.

Heading into the final game, Centre Dufferin and Orangeville each have two bonus points while Erin has one.
