Gargoyles clawed by Wildcats in their home opener

GUELPH – The Grand River Gargoyles were handed a 93-23 setback by the Hamilton Wildcats in their AFL Ontario Australian football home opener Saturday at Margaret Greene Park.

Sam Skelhorn, Jeremy Schwartzentruber and Michael Kasunic scored a goal apiece for the Gargs.

Hamilton received three goals from Michael Visser, two apiece from Brayden Catherall and Elijah Johns and one each from Curtis Sherwood, Joe Brignell, Justin Massie, Jeff Winstanley and Eric Klein.

The loss was the second in as many league outings for the Gargs while the win was the first for Hamilton as they had dropped their season opener 70-23 to the Toronto Rebels.

The Gargs are to tangle with the High Park Demons at Humber College South Saturday at 12 noon. The Demons have a win and a loss.
