GCVI and Erin move on to senior semifinals

GUELPH – The Guelph CVI Green Gaels and Erin Raiders advanced to the District 4/10 high school senior boys’ rugby league’s semifinals with wins in the quarter-finals Tuesday.

GCVI downed the Centennial Spartans 61-10 while Erin handed the Centre Dufferin Royals a 61-10 setback.

Erin had finished the regular season in third place while the Gaels were fourth.

Erin is to play the second-place Centre Wellington Falcons in the semifinals Thursday at Fergus while GCVI is to play the first-place Ross Royals in the other semifinal match,

Nico Carere converted six of GCVI’s tries while Ethan Kroetch, John Wegman and Sam Phippen each scored two tries. Single tries were scored by Kevin Hu, Brett Reynolds, Brandon Invalthaly and Owen Stirling.

Josiah Sklar and Liam Oakley each had a try for Centennial.


Erin 28 Centre Dufferin 10

Matt Collette touched down for a pair of Tries for Erin while Zach Bingham and Malcolm Alderdice scored one apiece. Bingham converted all four tries.

Sam Gayle and Tejay Matthews each had a try for Centre Dufferin.


Junior Boys

Centre Dufferin 48 Erin 0

Centre Dufferin completed the regular season with the victory.

Abel Sales struck for three tries for Centre Dufferin while Tucker Cunnington had two and Brady Marshall, Dominic Zatlyny and Riley Hope had one apiece. Aidan Mackenzie converted four of the tries.

Centre Dufferin is to host Guelph CVI in one semifinal Thursday while Ross is to host Erin in the other.

Kyla Warren led Erin with three tries while Dakota Poulter scored the other two and Madi Busby kicked four converts.

Sydney Gielen had the try for GCVI.

Erin, the lone Pool A team to survive the quarter-finals, is to host the Orangeville Scarlet Bears in Thursday’s semifinals.

Ross Royals are to host Centre Wellington Falcons in Thursday’s other semifinal.


Orangeville 46 Westside 10

Holly Bonney-Brookman powered Orangeville as she scored six tries and kicked two converts. Rebecca Hodder and Halle Richardson each scored a try and Kelsi Drensek kicked a convert.

Maddy Schindler scored both tries for Westside.
