GCVI seniors, Ross juniors out of AAA rugby tournament

BRANTFORD – The two Guelph squads in the CWOSSA AAA high school boys’ rugby championship tournament were ousted following the preliminary rounds Wednesday at George Jones Fields.

The Guelph CVI Green Gaels split their games in senior play as they defeated the Owen Sound Wolves 41-7, but lost 40-12 to the Brantford CI Mustangs in pool play. BCI dropped Owen Sound 53-0.

BCI advanced out of the pool to Thursday’s 5 p.m. championship match against the St. John’s College Green Eagles of Brantford.

In pool play, SJC edged the Waterloo CI Vikings 10-7 and dumped the St. Mary’s Eagles of Kitchener 69-5. WCI thumped St. Mary’s 51-12.

Scoring details were not recorded.



The Ross Royals were eliminated following a pair of losses as they were dropped 55-0 by the Brantford CI Mustangs and nipped 20-17 by the Waterloo CI Vikings.

BCI defeated WCI 29-0 to finish first in the pool and gain a spot in Thursday’s 4 p.m. final.

The Green Eagles will be joined in the 4 p.m. final by the Sir John A. Macdonald Highlanders of Waterloo who downed the St. John’s College Green Eagles of Brantford 45-5 and the St. Mary’s Eagles of Kitchener 32-5. SJC shut out St. Mary’s 38-0.
