Girls’ basketball titles for Westside and Centre Dufferin

ORANGEVILLE – The Westside Thunder claimed the District 4 high school senior girls’ basketball title Tuesday with a 40-36 victory over the Emmanuel Christian Eagles.

Scoring details were not reported.

Westside had finished the regular season at 8-2 while the Eagles were at 4-6.

Both teams advance to CWOSSA tournaments later this week as Westside is to compete in the AA championship at Cambridge and Waterloo Friday and Saturday and Emmanuel Christian is to play in the A tournament at Kincardine Friday.

 

Junior

The Centre Dufferin Royals grabbed the junior crown with a 37-25 triumph over the Wellington Heights Wolverines.

Franny McGowan led Centre Dufferin with 13 points while Tashlynn Jackson and Alexis Leid netted nine apiece.

Erin Rooney collected eight for Wellington Heights while Sydney Iles contributed seven.

As is the case in senior, both junior championship contenders are to compete in CWOSSA tournaments later this week – Centre Dufferin in the AA tournament at Cambridge and Waterloo Friday and Saturday and Wellington Heights in the A tournament at Kincardine Friday.
