Glanbrook Rangers continue dominance of Shamrocks

GLANBROOK – The Hespeler Shamrocks are on the brink of being swept from the Provincial Junior Hockey League playoffs following a 12-1 loss to the Glanbrook Rangers Wednesday night at the Glanbrook arena.

The result gives Glanbrook a 3-0 lead in the best-of-seven Bloomfield Division quarter-final series.

Hespeler’s unassisted goal by Matthew Tonner early in the second period was the first of the series for the Shamrocks. Glanbrook won the opening two games of the series by 9-0 and 7-0 scores.

Wednesday, Glanbrook led 5-0 at the end of the first period and 9-1 after the second.

Noah Matteson struck for five goals for Glanbrook while Mathew Rimac had a hat trick, Connor Maitz added two goals and Sean Golebiowski and Elijah Nurse each scored once. Jacob Buch collected four assists while Connor King and Maitz had three apiece and David Wilson, Rimac, Matt Stayshyn, Nurse, Dawson Shackelton, Matthew Hogan, Matteson, Lukas VanBerkel and Jake Pelissier each had one.

The Shamrocks were outshot 47-13 and never managed more than five shots in a single period.

Glanbrook went 3-for-4 on its power play while Hespeler was scoreless on three power plays.

Gavin McLeod started in net for Hespeler and he took the loss after allowing seven goals on 26 shots in the first 33:58 of the game. Connor Pickard relieved and allowed five goals on 21 shots the rest of the way. Warren Lament had 12 saves for the win in the Glanbrook net.

Fourth game of the series is to go Friday at 8:30 p.m. at the Hespeler Memorial Arena.

If a fifth game is needed, it’s to be played Saturday in Hespeler starting at 8:30 p.m.
