Grand River Gargoyles run over Central Blues
ETOBICOKE – The Grand River Gargoyles hit in a big way to put an end to their three-game AFL Ontario Australian football losing streak Saturday at the Humber College South field.
The Gargoyles clobbered the Central Blues 133-9 for their second win of the season.
The Gargs jumped ahead early as they were up 40-0 at the end of the first quarter and 67-7 at halftime. They extended their advantage to 102-8 by the end of the third quarter.
Sam Wood led the Gargs with five goals while Jeremy Schwartzentruber, Kyle Mundell and Brian Correia scored three apiece. Stephen Mcleod added two and Sam Skelhorn, Tyler Schwartzentruber and Josh Woods had one each.
Alex Joseph Pike scored the lone goal for the Blues.
The win lifts the Gargs to sixth in the eight-team league at 2-5-0 while the Blues are eighth at 0-7-0.
The Gargs are to play the Ottawa Swans (6-0-0) at Ottawa Saturday at 2 p.m.
Next home game is July 27 when the Gargs are to host the Toronto Dingos (3-4-0) at Margaret Greene Park at 12 noon.
