Gryphon baseball men get on a run to drop Gaels
KITCHENER – The Guelph Gryphons struck for runs in four consecutive innings as they downed the Queen’s Gaels 12-2 in OUA baseball play Sunday at Jack Couch Park.
After giving up a single run in the top of the first inning, the Gryphs responded with three runs in the second, two in the third, five in the fourth and two in the fifth.
The second run for Queen’s came in the third inning.
Evan Kiser picked up the win for the Gryphs as he held the Gaels to two earned runs off four hits and five walks in his five-inning stint. He struck out five.
Braedon Walsh had three hits including a double to drive in a pair of runs for the Gryphs while Ryan Freemantle and Brendan Callaghan each had two hits. Matthew Gravelle had one hit and knocked home three runs while Arthur Kowara had a double and two RBIs. Ashton Patterson also had a hit.
The win was the third of the weekend for the Gryphs as they had scored victories over the York Lions and Carleton Ravens Saturday.
The Gryphs are to play the Fieldhouse Pirates in an exhibition game Wednesday at 7:30 p.m. at Pearson Park.
The Guelph side is to wrap up its regular season with a doubleheader against the Laurentian Voyageurs Saturday at Hastings Stadium. First game is to start at 12 p.m.
They also have a non-conference doubleheader against the Brock Badgers at Hastings Stadium Sunday beginning at 12 p.m.
The OUA championship tournament is scheduled for the Thanksgiving weekend at the Ajax Sportsplex.
