
Gryphon field hockey women blanked by Varsity Blues
GUELPH – The Guelph Gryphons suffered their first loss of the OUA women’s field hockey season as they were blanked 3-0 by the Toronto Varsity Blues Friday night on Varsity Field.
Both teams had entered the match undefeated.

Toronto scored single goals in the first, second and fourth quarters for the victory.
Rebecca Carvalho, Molly Koop and Jayden Novak scored the goals while Madeline Sherwood had an assist.
Paramdeep Gill was credited with the shutout, but didn’t have to make a save as the Gryphs were held without a shot on net in the game. The Varsity Blues took seven shots with five reaching the net.
Nicola Leech and Maryam Maamoun shared the goaltending chores for the Gryphs and each had a save. Leech played 15 minutes and Maamoun played 45.
The teams were whistled for 28 fouls apiece while Toronto took eight penalty corners and the Gryphs took one.
The Gryphs lead the OUA West at 6-1-2 while the Western Mustangs are at 3-2-4, Waterloo Warriors are at 3-4-2 and McMaster Marauders are at 2-6-2.
Toronto leads the OUA East at 7-0-1 while the York Lions are at 6-2-1, Queen’s Gaels are at 2-6-1 and McGill Martlets are at 0-8-1.
The Gryphs are to complete their regular season Sunday at Varsity Field with a 1 p.m. game against Queen’s.
