Gryphon field hockey women double Waterloo
TORONTO – The Guelph Gryphons scored the first two goals of the game and that proved to be the difference as the Gryphs doubled the Waterloo Warriors 4-2 in OUA women’s field hockey play Saturday at the University of Toronto’s back field.
The Gryphs scored the only goal of the first quarter before a scoreless second quarter. They also scored the first goal of the third quarter and the teams traded goals after that. Guelph was up 3-1 at the end of the third quarter.
Katherine MacMillan, Bailey Mitchell, Sidney Evans and Kayla Magarelli scored the goals for the Gryphs.
Hannah Cook and Miranda Hunter replied with a goal apiece for Waterloo.
Maryam Maamoun picked up the win in the Guelph net while Marley Dowling was in net for Waterloo.
The Gryphs are third in the seven-team league with a 5-1-1 record while Waterloo and the Queen’s Gaels are tied for fourth with 2-4-0 records.
The Gryphs are to be back on the field in Toronto Sunday for a 10:45 a.m. match with Queen’s.
