Gryphon field hockey women downed by York

KINGSTON – The Guelph Gryphons suffered their first loss of the OUA women’s field hockey season Sunday as they were handed a 3-0 blanking by the defending champion York Lions.

The teams battled scoreless through the first half before York netted the lone goal of the third quarter. The Lions added two more in the fourth quarter.

Lexi Hannah scored all three goals for York while Alycia Gray recorded the shutout.

Maryam Maamoun and Amanda Hodgert split time in the Guelph net. Maamoun allowed one goal and Hodgert yielded two.

The loss leaves the Gryphs at 3-1. They trail the Toronto Varsity Blues (4-0) and York (3-0) and lead the Queen’s Gaels (2-2), Waterloo Warriors (1-2), Western Mustangs (0-3) and McGill Martlets (0-5).

The Gryphs are to play Toronto at Western Saturday at 10:45 a.m. and Western at York Sunday at 10:45 a.m.
