Gryphon field hockey women edged by Toronto

TORONTO – The Guelph Gryphons completed their OUA women’s field lacrosse regular season with a 2-1 loss to the Toronto Varsity Blues at the U of T Back Campus Fields.

Toronto scored once in each half for the win while the Gryphons tallied in the second half.

Mackenzie Janzen’s goal for the Gryphs tied the score 1-1 in the 64th minute.

Toronto won it on Hilary Ziraldo’s goal on a penalty corner five minutes later.

Anna Costanzo had scored in the first half for Toronto.

Maryam Maamoun and Amanda Hodgert shared the goaltending chores for the Gryphs and each allowed a goal. Elizabeth O’Hara was in net for Toronto.

York Lions finished atop the league standings at 10-0-2 and were followed by Toronto (10-1-1), Guelph (7-3-2), Queen’s Gaels (5-5-2), Waterloo Warriors (3-7-2), Western Mustangs (2-9-1) and McGill Redmen (0-12-0).

The four-day OUA championship tournament is to start Thursday at the University of Waterloo’s Warrior Field.
