Gryphon field hockey women in knot with Toronto

LONDON – The Guelph Gryphons battled the Toronto Varsity Blues to a 2-2 standoff in OUA women’s field hockey play Saturday at London.

The game featured a single goal in each quarter and the Gryphs opened and closed the scoring.

Mackenzie Janzen struck for the opening goal on a penalty corner five minutes into the game.

Sidney Evans pulled Guelph even on a penalty corner with five minutes to go in the game.

Madeline Sherwood connected for Toronto in the second quarter and Rachel Spouge tallied for the Varsity Blues in the third quarter.

Goalkeepers were Amanda Hodgert of the Gryphs and Elizabeth O’Hara of Toronto.

Toronto (4-0-1) leads the league while the York Lions (4-0-0) are second and the Gryphs (3-1-1) are third.

The Gryphs are to play the Western Mustangs (1-4-0) at York University Sunday. Game time is 10:45 a.m.
