Gryphon field hockey women nip Waterloo again

WATERLOO – For the second night in a row the Guelph Gryphons scored a one-goal victory over the Waterloo Warriors in OUA women’s field hockey play Friday at Warrior Field.

Abigail Warriner scored the game’s only goal as she hit four minutes into the fourth quarter to give the Gryphs a 1-0 victory.

Maryam Maamoun picked up the shutout victory in net for the Gryphs while Marley Dowling was in goal for Waterloo.

No statistics from the game were recorded.

The Gryphs lead the OUA West and the entire league with a 6-0-2 record. Waterloo is second in the division at 2-4-2 while the Western Mustangs are at 1-2-3 and the McMaster Marauders are at 1-4-1.

York Lions lead the OUA East at 5-2-1 and are followed by the Toronto Varsity Blues at 4-0-1, Queen’s Gaels at 1-3-0 and McGill Redbirds at 0-5-0.

The Gryphs are to complete their regular season with a pair of home games at Varsity Field next weekend. They’re to host Toronto Friday at 7 p.m. and Queen’s Sunday at 1 p.m.
