Gryphon field hockey women silver medalists

WATERLOO – The Guelph Gryphons are OUA women’s field hockey silver medalists.

The York Lions rode a goal early in the first half to retain the title as they edged the Gryphons 1-0 in Sunday’s championship game at Warrior Field.

Jaslan Stirling connected for the game’s only goal in the sixth minute of play.

Alycia Gray of York stopped all shots fired her way in the York net.

Amanda Hodgert was in net for the Gryphs.

The Toronto Varsity Blues won the bronze-medal match 3-0 over the Waterloo Warriors.

The Queen’s Gaels claimed fifth place with a 3-0 win over the Western Mustangs.

The McGill Martlets dropped the McMaster Marauders in the seventh-place game.

York will host the Canada West champion UBC Thunderbirds in a best-of-three UBC national championship series next weekend.
