Gryphon golf men 8th in championship meet

THORNTON, Ont. – The Guelph Gryphons stood eighth in the men’s division following Wednesday’s third round of the Canadian University/College Golf Championships at Tangle Creek Golf and Country Club.

The Gryphs had a three-round total of 917 and were 20 shots behind the first-place Laval Rouge et Or.

The UBC Thunderbirds and Laurier Golden Hawks were tied for second at 898 while the Toronto Varsity Blues were fourth at 903, Western Mustangs fifth at 905, Victoria Vikes sixth at 911 and Waterloo Warriors seventh at 913.

The Gryphs are not represented in the women’s division. UBC has a commanding lead with a three-round total of 689 while Victoria and Toronto are tied for second at 730.

The championships have attracted 19 teams in the men’s division and 11 in the women’s division.

Individually in the men’s competition, Joshua Polisuk leads the Gryphs tied for 12th at 225. Nicholas Striker is tied for 24th at 229, Marc-Anthony Manion tied for 38th at 233, Nicholas Freeman tied for 45th at 237 and Trevor Whiton tied for 53rd at 239.

Evan Holmes of UBC leads at 214.

The fourth and final round is set for Friday.
