Gryphon hockey men done in by second-period goals
GUELPH – The Guelph Gryphons yielded a pair of goals in the second period and that proved to be the difference in the game as the Carleton Ravens posted a 3-1 win in OUA men’s hockey play Friday night at the Gryphon Centre.
Carleton took a 2-0 lead in the second period after a scoreless first. The teams scored once apiece in the third.
Stephen Hiff scored the goal for the Gryphs with help from Tryg Strand and Matt Kenney.
Brett Gustavsen, Alexandre Boivin and Matthew Forchuk tallied for Carleton while C.J. Garcia had two assists and Mike Constantine, Andrew Jarvis, Jacob Smith and Josh Burnside each had one.
The Gryphs outshot Carleton 34-23 and neither team scored on its power play, the Gryphs on three power plays and Carleton on one.
Justin Nichols had 33 saves for the win in net for Carleton while Evan Cormier had 20 saves for Guelph.
The Gryphs fall to 2-2-2-2 with the loss while Carleton improves to 3-1-2-2.
The Gryphs are to host the Ottawa Gee-Gees (4-0-1-1) at the Gryphon Centre Saturday at 7:30 p.m.
