
Gryphon hockey men downed by Cornell Big Red
GUELPH – The Guelph Gryphons opened their three-in-three exhibition games with NCAA teams with an 8-1 loss to the Cornell Big Red at Ithaca, N.Y., Thursday night.
The Gryphs scored a power-play goal with 3:41 to go in the second period for their lone goal of the game. Cornell had scored six goals by then.

Cornell led 4-0 at the end of the first period and 7-1 after the second.
Ted McGeen scored for the Gryphs while Luke Bignell and Tristan de Jong set up the goal.
Ondrej Psenicka scored twice for Cornell while single goals were added by Sam Malinski, Matt Stienburg, Max Andreev, Tim Rego, Sean Donaldson and Winter Wallace. Stienburg, Andreev and Jack Malone each had two assists while Hank Kempf, Donaldson, Wallace, Malinski, Zach Tupker and Ben Berard had one assist each.
The Big Red outshot the Gryphs 35-11 and both teams went 1-for-6 on their power plays.
Former Big Red goalie Nate McDonald started in net for the Gryphs and was replaced by Colton Incze after allowing four goals in the first 14:53. McDonald had 11 saves while Incze had 16 saves the rest of the way. He allowed the other four goals in his 45:07 in net.
Ian Shane started in net for Cornell and had five saves in the first 30:43 while Remington Keopple had five saves in the final 29:01 and he yielded the goal.
The Gryphs are to play the Dartmouth Big Green at Hanover, N.H., Friday at 7 p.m. and the Harvard Crimson at Cambridge, Mass., Saturday at 7 p.m.
