
Gryphon hockey men drop another one in overtime
TORONTO – The Guelph Gryphons surrendered three consecutive goals as they suffered a 5-4 loss in overtime to the York Lions in OUA men’s hockey play Friday night at York’s Canlan Ice Sports arena.
Cole Cameron’s goal at 7:58 of the third period put the Gryphs up 4-2, but York responded with a pair of goals later in the period to force the overtime that came to an end after 48 seconds on a goal by York’s Owen Gilhula.

The loss was Guelph’s league-high sixth overtime loss. They have one win in overtime and one win in a shootout.
The teams scored once apiece in the first period while the Gryphs led 3-2 at the end of the second.
Ted Nichol, Duncan Penman and Zach Roberts scored the other goals for the Gryphs while single assists went to Nathan Allensen, Jacob Winterton, Nichol, Cameron Searles and Emmett Gordon.
Cole Beamin, Thomas Lacombe, Lucas Theriault and Benjamin Evanish had the regulation-time goals for the Gryphs. Michael Horon collected two assists while Gilhula, Brock McLeod, Evanish, Bryan McAndrews, David D’Agostino and Klim Georgiev had one apiece.
The teams each had 38 shots on net. Brendan Cregan had 33 saves for the Gryphs while Carter Serhyenko had 34 for York.
The Gryphs went 1-for-2 on their power play while York was scoreless on three power plays.
The win puts York into a tie for sixth place in the West Division with the Laurier Golden Hawks with identical 8-8-1-0 records while the Gryphs are eighth at 5-5-6-0.
The Gryphs are to host the Western Mustangs, ninth in the OUA West at 3-8-5-0, Saturday at 5 p.m. in their Hockey Day in GryphonVille Game.
