
Gryphon hockey men fall too far behind Toronto
GUELPH – The Guelph Gryphons were held scoreless until early in the third period and by then the locals were too far behind as they suffered a 5-1 loss to the Toronto Varsity Blues in OUA men’s hockey play Thursday night at the Gryphon Centre.
Toronto led 2-0 at the end of the first period and added their other three goals in the second.

Giordano Biondi scored for the Gryphs at 5:47 of the third period with what turned out to be the final goal of the game. Assists went to Liam Ham and Anthony Tabak.
Ross Krieger had a hat trick for the Varsity Blues and he also picked up an assist. Billy Moskal and Eddie Yan scored the other goals while single assists went to Moskal, Owen Guy, Owen Robinson, Hayden Davis, Yan and Zack Smith.
Tanner Wickware started in net for the Gryphs and was replaced at 9:20 of the first after Toronto’s second goal. Brendan Cregan went the rest of the way. Wickware had nine saves while Cregan had 20. Jett Alexander had 31 saves for Toronto.
The Gryphs were outshot 34-32 and went 1-for-4 on their power play while Toronto went 1-for-9.
Next up for the Gryphs is a Saturday game against the Laurier Golden Hawks at the Sun Life Financial Arena in the Waterloo Memorial Recreation Complex. Game time is 3:30 p.m.
