Gryphon hockey men hit for first win of season
WINDSOR – A pair of third-period goals by the Guelph Gryphons lifted them to their first victory of the young OUA men’s hockey league season.
The goals gave the Gryphs a 5-4 victory over the Windsor Lancers Wednesday night in OUA men’s hockey play at the Captri Pizzeria Recreation Centre.

The goals just over eight minutes apart put the Gryphs into a two-goal lead for the first time in the match, but Windsor cut the final margin to a single goal in the final minute. The Gryphs never trailed in the game.
The loss was Windsor’s first of the season.
The teams were tied 1-1 at the end of the first period and 3-3 after the second.
Connor Bramwell connected for a pair of goals for the Gryphs while singletons were added by Ted McGeen, Nick Isaacson and Jacob Winterton with the game-winner at 16:27 of the third. Lucas Chiodo, McGeen and Liam Ham each had two assists while Bramwell, Andrew Dodson, Spencer Herbst and Cole Cameron had one apiece.
Sean Olson recorded a hat trick for Windsor while Ben Assad scored the other goal. Single assists went to Brady Hinz, Anthony Stefano, Coy Prevost, Nolan Gardiner, John Wesley, Mel Melconian, Holden Wale and Ryan Barbosa.
Windsor outshot the Gryphs 36-32.
Tanner Wickware picked up the win in the Gryphon net while Dakota Lund-Cornish took the loss for Windsor.
The Gryphs went 2-for-3 on their power play while the Lancers were 1-for-6.
Windsor leads the Far West Division at 2-1-0 while the Laurier Golden Hawks and Western Mustangs are tied at 1-1-0. The Gryphs are at 1-1-1 and Waterloo Warriors are at 0-1-1.
The Gryphs are to play Western Saturday at the Gryphon Centre. Game time is 7:30 p.m.
